Marketing Windows Server 2008 R2

The Windows Server Marketing team at Microsoft engaged Wadeware to develop a comprehensive set of marketing materials for the launch of Windows Server 2008 R2. The project, which ran well over a year through four phases, focused on developing marketing materials to communicate the new features in Windows Server 2008 R2 to business decision makers (BDMs), technical decision makers (TDMs), and IT pros.

Business issue and requirements

Microsoft needed a technical documentation team familiar with the Windows Server platform to deliver marketing collateral, starting with a beta release and ending with the final delivery of the content for the RTM release.

Solution

Wadeware’s team of writers, editors, and graphic designers developed a reviewers guide and a technical white paper, each of which included more than 100 pages of content, as well as a white paper intended for business managers. The team also created supporting content materials and complex graphics for PowerPoint presentations, datasheets, and leave-behind marketing materials that included quick glance top 10 lists to help convince IT pros to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2.

Each project phase built on the previously established material and required the Wadeware team to understand a significant amount of technical information and develop it into a deliverable package within a short time span to meet mission critical deadlines. The project was considered a huge success for both Wadeware and Microsoft.
